Mini Bio:Johnny Tsun-Yi Kung, 18, is a graduate of Earl Haig Secondary School (North York, Ont.), where he helped promote an interest in science by "co-founding the largest, multidisciplinary science society in the school's recent past, as well as organizing the first in-school science competition." Johnny plans to pursue graduate studies in evolution, genetics, and biochemistry, with the goal of becoming a research scientist. In the summer of grade 11 Johhny volunteered as a research assistant at U of T's Koffler Scientific Reserve, and in the summer of grade 12 he volunteered in the zoology department at U of T exploring the fungal-algal symbiotic relationships in lichen. The U of T Scholar and National Biology Competition scholarship winner placed 16th in the 2002 biology competition while in his second to last year in high school.
