Mini Bio:
A food fight with roommates at the new apartment-style Innis College residence is one of Steven's special moments at U of T; not so special is having to wash dishes. Steven, 18, who placed first in the '95 competition and tied for fifth in '96, is a graduate of Woburn Collegiate. The Scarborough squash champion remembers his grade 7-8 science teacher as someone who gave him the opportunity to explore his interests in science: "He never gave me straight answers to my questions but rather he would let me figure out the answers myself by experimentation or researching papers." Steven's awards include a gold medal from the Canada-Wide Science Fair, a silver medal from the International Science and Technology Fair, and Scarborough Science Awards in biology, chemistry, and physics. This past summer he participated in the International Youth Science program at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. Steven was one of only seven students this year to receive an Arbor Scholarship at U of T, valued at $3000 per year for four years. Steven hopes to pursue the combined M.D./Ph.D. programme at U of T with the goal of becoming a research scientist in molecular biology.
