Lord Elgin High School
Mini Bio:
Zheng Ping, 19, is a graduate of Robert Bateman High School (formerly known as Lord Elgin High School) in Burlington, Ontario. Zheng Ping, who plans to pursue a double major in genetics and liberal arts, is interested in researching human congenital diseases. The most influential event to shape his career ambitions was reading a chapter from Barbara Kingsolver's anthology Small Wonders addressing the ethical considerations of genetic engineering. Zheng Ping chose to attend U of T because of the abundance of things to explore, both physically and intellectually. He believes that there is great value in allowing yourself to make mistakes, as you often learn more from your failures than your achievements. Zheng Ping's hobbies include reading the classics, cycling around the city, and learning about computers. A piece of advice for high school students: "Never sacrifice sleep for school work. No amount of studying can surpass exhaustion!" Zheng Ping placed in the top 50 in the 2004 biology competition while in Grade 11 and entered U of T in September 2005.
